I referenced each code section in a correction notice. Please note that the code doesn’t specifically address installation of T-stat cabling embedded in sheet rock compound in a shallow groove behind vinyl/ or carpet base trim. The code is often intended to be interpretated through the provisions found in various requirements. As for your installations: 1. The channel depth and subsequent patching in rated wall construction is subject to building inspection. 2. I have been told that the channel is subsequently filled with drywall taping compound- a. Do the cables installed have a rating or covering to allow embedding in compound or exposure to glues or solvents – in other words- will not have a deleterious effect on the conductors, covering or insulation? b. Please provide such documentation if you are in compliance with (a.) above. Provide listing information/ product spec/installation instruction or the like. 3. Please see NEC 110.11 regarding deteriorating agents- are prohibited except where a product is listed/identified and permitted to be used in such conditions. 4. Please see 110.12 for the requirement of NEC 300. 4 to apply- 5. Please see NEC 300.4 F – for the requirement of steel plate to protect cables and conductors in shallow grooves. 6. Please see Table 725.154 - 7. I included a reference to the under-carpet type cable only as a point of knowledge for you- Until or unless the product you are installing shows compliance with the code language and the intent and purpose of this code- my decision on the installation practice requires correction.
