Nine Mile Creek Watershed District (NMCWD) is planning a stream restoration project located in Bloomington between Interstate 494 and 78th Street West. Restoration objectives for this project include reconnecting the creek with its floodplain, restoring eroding banks to reduce sediment and nutrient loading within the creek, providing pool refugia during periods of low flow, increasing instream habitat for fish and macroinvertebrates, and restoring vegetation diversity through removal of invasive species and planting native herbaceous vegetation. The project encompasses the installation of woody material (toewood, tree trunks, and brush bundles), restoration of riffle habitat, reshaping stream banks with bankfull benches, narrowing the stream channel in the overly-wide areas along the creek, reconnecting the creek with its floodplain, removing woody invasive species, and seeding native riparian vegetation
